EQUALLY DIFFERENT
It was a time long before the presence of life. An era of pure energies. Different energies coexisted with each other in Earth. The biggest of all the energies was Water. She was the prettiest of them all, glistening like a sea of sapphires, she was a magical sight to admire. On the other hand, was the strongest and the most fierce of them all, Fire. He was the epitome of wrath. Wherever Water went, she exuded life and serenity. Wherever Fire went, he left a trail of destruction behind. They never crossed paths with each other as whenever they did, the world got engulfed into a ball of smoke. Despite his destructive behavior, Fire was the most respected. He provided heat, comfort and light. And despite her adorable and charming personality, Water was the most unpredictable. She was so deep and vast that nobody could fathom what her capabilities were.
One day Water and Fire started arguing. Air began to control the war by sweeping and clearing the smoke. Land started praying for them to stop. Clouds became darker and darker making the world an ominous looking place. Lighting began thundering, urging them to stop! But Fire and Water had no intentions to stand down from their grounds. Water asked everyone that if Fire is so destructive and violent, why he was being so praised? Why is he getting the special treatment from everyone? In his defense Fire states that he never asked for any special treatment. Also, he was getting it until he provided. If he somehow stopped giving heat or light, the very energies who followed him, will banish him. Because all that's left is destruction. Whereas, Water had beauty and life as her nature. Even if she never quenches anyone's thirst, she will still be adored for her beauty and the ability to bring life. When the matter got worse, the eternal energy of Space, who was the elder of all the energies came down from the sky. It proposed a meeting between the two of them and called every energy there to witness it.
The atmosphere was intense. Fire and Water stood face to face as others stood in utter silence. Space resided above all of them and started the meeting. It patiently listened to the plea of both the parties. Finally it turns to Water and asks what exactly she wants with her plea. She states that she only wants equality. Equality of a chance to be followed by , to be respected and to be considered equal to Fire. Space nods and was ready to recite the final verdict when Water says something that makes it stop. "I can do everything that Fire does, but better. So I am an equal to him." No one understood the deeper meaning of this line other than their elder. It was in this moment, Space knew, that she overstepped.
Space came down to the level of Fire and Water. It asks Nature to provide both of them with a leaf. "Destroy this leaf, both of you. I should not see a single residue of the leaf after you're done." The moment these words got uttered by him, Fire decimated the leaf just by touching it. The leaf turned to ash and got erased from existence completely. Whereas, Water flowed through the leaf. It vigorously churned the leaf around, even froze itself and tried to cut through the leaf. Even then, small parts of the leaf were left. Space looks at her, feeling dejected, accepting her loss. Now Space called Nature and provided both of them with a leaf again. "Now this time, Fire burn a little of both these leaves, then you have to save this leaf before it burns out of existence." Fire does as he is asked. He lights up both the leaves. This time, as soon as Water touches her leaf, the fire extinguishes and the leaf is saved. On the other hand, if fire went even close to the burning leaf, the destruction only escalated. His leaf got destroyed and he loses this round. The Space smiles and announces, "One round won by both of you. Now to decide, a final round will commence."
This time, under the guidance of Space, Nature provides both, Fire and Water, a small plant." For the final round, both of you have to grow this plant bigger. I'll accelerate time for you." Both of them, determined to win against each other start in their own ways. Fire stood a little bit far away and offered his warmth and light to the plant. But the plant dries till death. Water invades every pore of the plants body, enriching it. But without warmth and light, the plant was unable to make it's food and dies of hunger. Fire and Water both look perplexed towards Space. They both lost. Other energies were confused as well, they too were unable to conjure an answer with these tests. Space gives everyone a warm smile as he starts to explain, "There are things which only Fire is capable of doing. There are things which only Water is capable of doing. Not everything Fire does, can be replicated by Water to the same level of perfection and vice versa. So, to say that she is capable of doing everything he can do, but better was false. But, it was also important to show Fire that somethings are impossible to do with sheer brute and requires a gentle touch. You know how both of you could have won?" Saying this, Space takes both the dead plants and rewinds time to the point where they were still alive. He places them between Fire and Water. The plant starts growing bigger and bigger. That's when they all understood the true meaning of equality.
The warmth and light was reaching the plant as the water that revitalized it and soil. If any of those were not given enough chance, the plant would not become a tree and flourish. To win the first round, all Water had to do was to throw the leaf to Fire as he was better at it. In the second, it's exactly opposite as Water was better. They only had to acknowledge that the test was not between both of them, but against Space. That's why both of them lost. Yes they should be considered equals but they are equally different. They are like 2 sides of a coin. If one side is not there, the coin loses all it's worth. Yes Water harbors all life, but if Fire won't provide the perfect warmth, the life cannot survive. Yes Fire is protective and caring, but if there is no Water to calm him down, he might destroy what he protects. Life only prospers with equal chances to both of them to showcase their abilities.
After an infinite number of years, the world as we know was finally here. All the energies became omnipotent sources . Fire comes to Water and explains his plan. He wanted to form a superior kind of organism who will help them roam around this world everyone created together. Water feels the same way and was overjoyed to finally be able to roam the world again. Fire reincarnates his energies as a Male. Water reincarnates her energies as a Female.
Space watches over them smiling holding a leaf. He thinks, "Maybe this generation won't fight over like their ancestors. Otherwise I have to reincarnate too from time to time. What was the word I liked for myself? Ummm……. Yes. GOD."
